Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis Clinic
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is an assisted reproduction technique that allows the embryo’s genetics to be studied to help identify genetic defects and prevent the transmission of a serious genetic disease to the descendants.
In Vitro Fertilisation treatment will be carried out. After obtaining the embryos, a genetic test is carried out on one or several cells of the embryo, depending on the day of evolution, to find out if it carries any alteration. Once the embryos have been sampled, they are frozen while awaiting genetic diagnosis. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, only the healthy ones are selected for a frozen embryo transfer.
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) cannot be performed for any genetic disease, only in cases where the disease is serious and there is no possibility of curative treatment.

WHEN IS PRE-IMPLANTATION GENETIC DIAGNOSIS (PGD) INDICATED?
- Sex-linked recessive diseases such as haemophilia, fragile X syndrome or most of the neuromuscular dystrophies.
- Sex-linked dominant diseases.
- Monogenic diseases (cystic fibrosis, Huntington’s disease, Tay-Sachs…).
- Chromosomal rearrangements (translocation, inversion, deletions and aneuplodies).
- Implantation failure.
- Repeated miscarriages.
